Well over six hundred people attended a Polish disco concert last night where the bands Boys and Basta performed until midnight. The concert was held in the town of Hafnarfjörður, located in the greater Reykjavik area.

"We are very happy with how the concert turned out," says Marta Magdalena Niebieszczanska, one of the concert planners and editor of the Polish news website Iceland News Polska.

"This kind of entertainment has been lacking here. Yesterday we saw families gather to enjoy themselves together and some even took a long trip to get to the concert. I know of one group from Ólafsvík which decided they would drive south so they wouldn't miss it," says Marta. Ólafsvík is located on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, about 200 kilometres from Reykjavik.

Polish sausages were for sale at the venue along with pickles and Polish breadstuff. "It's all about creating a good atmosphere and giving people a chance to relax and enjoy themselves in a familiar environment."

Marta and her fellow planners are now organizing a rap concert with the Polish rapgroup Pokahontaz, to be held at the Gaukurinn venue, which is in downtown Reykjavik. Icelandic rap artist Erpur Eyvindarson will be warming up for the band, which has earned a gold record award in their home country.
