Iceland may not have won Eurovision this year, but it once again takes top spot when it comes to viewing figures. 95.5% of TV viewers on the evening of Saturday 23 May tuned in to watch the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest grand final.

According to figures from the European Broadcasting Union, almost 40% of the entire audience market tuned in to watch Sweden romp to a sixth Eurovision victory. Perhaps not surprisingly, that figure was much higher in the winning nation itself – 86.5% of Swedes were watching, the second highest individual national share.

But even the enthusiasm of the victors had nothing on that of Icelanders. 95.5% of the Icelandic TV audience on the evening of Saturday 23 May watched Eurovision, a remarkable figure given that Iceland was not even participating, having failed to qualify from the heats.

In its 60th anniversary year, the Eurovision Song Contest pulled in a total of almost 200 million viewers.
