Artist and musician Steinunn Eldflaug Harðardóttir has made quite a name for herself as DJ Flugvél og Geimskip.  She plays out-of-this world music that's unlike anything you've ever heard before. In her own words she describes it as refreshing electronic space-music with songs that relate to the moon, space and vivid ocean dreams. She's celebrating the release of her third album Nótt á hafsbotni (Night at the Bottom of the Ocean) this Saturday, August 15th, at Húrra with a concert and party.  The event is set to be a spectacularly colourful event and guests are urged to turn up wearing ocean inspired clothing in all shades of Atlantis.  Here, DJ Flugvél og Geimskip reveals a little bit more about herself to Iceland Monitor.

What‘s the best thing about living in Iceland?
Many of my friends live here so it's easy to meet them. Also to be able to climb mountains and go somewhere outside the city, like driving for half and hour and being somewhere where you can see across the land and be somewhere alone in silence with a lot of space around. Then it's easy to feel how insignificant everything is.  I like to see the stars in the winter but the stars can be seen everywhere in the world. I also like skiing in Iceland in the winter but now there is not much snow anymore because of global warming.

Your most treasured possession?
My car, because It means I  can drive wherever I want whenever I want to.

What‘s your idea of a perfect meal?
Toast with peanut butter, cucumber and chilli-sambal, eaten on the edge of a cliff.

Who would you invite to the meal, of anyone living or dead?
Rasputin would be welcome, also the alchemist Zosimos of Panopolis.

What is your favourite place in Iceland?
A mountain top anywhere. I love to be high up and see things from above.

Artists that you look most up to?
Otto Von Schirach, Captain Beefheart and Helgi Þórsson.

What‘s the book that has most influenced your life?
The smell of burned feathers, a collection of short stories by Daníil Kharms. Stories about nonsense.

"I also like skiing in Iceland in the winter,  but now there is not much snow anymore because of global warming"

What will you be listening to this weekend?
DNB - Black sun Empire, Noisia and Agzilla - he's playing at Paloma in the basement this Saturday at DNB night#9- my favorite , Otto Von Schirach, Evil Madness, Captin Beefheart, Tav Falco's Panther Burns and maybe the new record from Tame Impala…

Favourite item of clothing?
An orange faux-fur-west that Magga Stína (Icelandic musician and radio host) gave me when I was thirteen.

Favourite café/ restaurant in Reykjavik?
Hamborgarabúllan burger joint because my friends work there and it is the most relaxing thing to sit at the counter and see them work like crazy and just sit there doing nothing except drink coffee.

What‘s your least favourite trait of Icelanders?
Some Icelanders have this bizarre pride of being from Iceland and think it somehow makes them more special or interesting to have been born in Reykjavik of all places. National pride,  I don't like it. I think it's silly. we are just born somewhere by coincidence. We are all from everywhere.

What keeps you awake at night?
Thoughts, just like everyone I guess. When I try to sleep, new thoughts and ideas keep popping up and I always have to stand up and go and write it dow. And then I am not tired anymore and I notice that everyone in the world around me is asleep so it's my secret free time when there's nothing else to do, nd then I do whatever I like. It's almost like being alone in the world for a few hours.

If you could move anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would that be?
I would move to the mountains in Tibet or Nepal.
