Star Wars tickets sell like hot cakes

The excitement among Star Wars fans the world over ahead of the release of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens in December is palpable – and Iceland is clearly no exception.

The film premieres in Iceland on 17 December, one day after the first showing in the USA, with some cinemas in Greater Reykjavik and Akureyri holding a midnight screening on the night of 16 December.

Scenes of manic mouse-clicking were to be seen in homes around Iceland at midday yesterday, as tickets sales for these midnight showings opened. 300 tickets went in the first seven minutes, and after half an hour 700 seats had been sold.

“We have never before experienced so much interest for pre-sales for a film,” says Þorvaldur Árnason, CEO of SamFilm cinemas.
