A cuckoo's nest by the harbour
One of the gems of the up-and-coming Grandi area by Reykjavik harbour is the tiny Coocoo's Nest restaurant, popular with the city's yuppies and hipsters. Owned by artist couple Lucas Keller and Íris Ann who met in Italy eight years ago, the restaurant is a kind of an Italian deli with a Californian twist.
Situated in the old fish storages at Grandi, which lies about ten minutes away from the city centre, The Coocoo's Nest was one of the first of a surge of new cool places in the area. Next door to the restaurant is renowned ice-cream shop Valdís, two gourmet food shops and a cake shop.
The cuisine at the Coocoo's Nest is inspired by Keller's hometown in California and the venue focuses on a lunch menu on weekdays and a fantastic San Francisco style brunch on weekends as well as the Italian version of happy hour, aperitivo.
