The winning entry for the architectural contest for the new mosque to be built in Sogamýri in Reykjavik has been announced.

The Icelandic Muslim Association in Reykjavik is  building the mosque and director of the association, Salmann Tamimi said to mbl.is yesterday that he's very happy with the result. Construction is set to begin next summer.

In a speech made yesterday when the announcement was made Tamimi said that it had taken 40 years to build Hallgrímskirkja but that he hoped the mosque could be built in a shorter time.

The architects behind the winning entry are Gunnlaugur Stefán Baldursson and Pia Bickman.
