Reykjavik’s famous Jómfrúin restaurant, specialising in Danish open sandwiches, reopened to diners this weekend after over a month’s closure for renovations.

The eatery has been a popular fixture of downtown Reykjavik dining ever since it was founded twenty years ago in 1996. According to Jómfrúin owner Jakob Einar Jakobsson, every inch of the place has been spruced up to improve the experience for both diners and staff.

As well as renovated surroundings, lovers of Danish smørrebrød will now be able to enjoy longer opening hours. Jómfrúin previously closed at 6 pm every day, but will now open till 10 pm Thursdays to Saturdays until 1 April. After that, the longer opening times will be in force seven days a week.

The restaurant’s website (in Icelandic) can be consulted here.
