Sharp earthquake at Bárðarbunga

An earthquake of 5,1 was measured at 09:22 this morning on the southern edge of the Bárðarbunga caldera. This was the sharpest earthquake in the area since last Sunday, and the only one over 5 on the Richter scale. Additionally, 14 events exceeded 4 and around 20 were in the range between 3,0 and 3,9 on the scale.
The situation at Bárðarbunga remains unchanged, although a slight decrease of the number of larger earthquakes has been observed in recent weeks.
Activity was comparably high throughout last night and has considerably dropped following the large earthquake this morning. Similar patterns of increased activity before and decreased activity after earthquakes over 5 on the scale have been frequently observed in the last weeks at Bárðarbunga.
The eruption at Holuhraun continues at a similar rate with no noteable changes.
