Available information from the ongoing investigation of Tuesday’s air disaster in France seems to suggest that the co-pilot waited until the captain had left the flight deck, locked himself in, then deliberately caused the aircraft in crash into mountains.

No European flight-deck rules

European rules do not currently require two crew members to be on the flight deck at all times. In spite of this, Guðjón Arngrímsson, Communications Officer at Icelandair, has announced that the airline has decided to change it procedures such that a member of cabin crew must replace one of the pilots, should they need the leave the flight deck.

WOWair joins Icelandair

According to Svanhvít Friðriksdóttir, Communications Officer at WOWair, the low-cost airline intends to follow suit. “In light of this terrible incident, we are reviewing all existing procedures. Changes will include introducing this new rule,” Friðriksdóttir indicates.
