Thursday marks the official start of summer in Iceland. According to the latest information for the Icelandic Met Office, the weather gods do not appear to have got the memo.

By Thursday, Iceland will be in the grip of strengthening northerly winds, frost and hail. Temperatures will plummet to -7°C – maybe even -10°C – in northern parts of the country.

Temperatures will begin to fall this afternoon, starting in Western Iceland. By Thursday, most of the country will be experiencing stong northerly winds, frost and hail. Only South Iceland will escape, enjoying fine summer temperatures of 0-5°C.

Things are unlikely to improve over the weekend, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday set to be the coldest days of the week. Neither is there any warm spell in sight after the weekend.
