Ever discovered that the total price you pay for your flight is higher than the advertised price? Airline surcharges are a common feature in today’s travel industry and, in some cases, can considerably increase the price of a trip abroad.

The Icelandic tourism and travel website turisti.is has gathered together surcharge data for the sixteen airlines operating regular scheduled services from Keflavík International Airport (KEF) to help travellers compare and contrast the various deals on offer.

Seven of the sixteen airlines charge for checked-in luggage, while most airlines charge passengers to reserve a specific seat. Some special requests can be twice as expensive if made at the airport rather than online.

Two airlines charge a specific booking fee, while three make travellers pay a credit-card transaction charge.

The following table (click to enlarge) gives the full set of airline surcharge data collected by turisti.is. Charges with non-Icelandic airlines are converted into ISK at the current exchange rate and rounded to the nearest ten.
