Strike: national bus routes cancelled

Industrial action announced by the Icelandic Professional Trade Association (SGS) will have a major effect on lines operated by Iceland’s Strætó bus company to destinations outside the Greater Reykjavik area. The first day of planned strike action is Thursday 30 April.

Lines affected

On Thursday, from noon to midnight, nine Strætó lines will be seriously affected by strikes by SGS members. The announced changes are as follows:

  • Lines 51, 56, 72, 73, 74, 75, 78 and 79: all services cancelled.
  • Line 57: most services cancelled.

Planned strike timetable

Thursday 30 April is the first of five one-day strikes planned by SGS before a long-term indefinite strike begins on 26 May, should talks to resolve the dispute be unsuccessful. The full strike schedule affecting Strætó bus services is as follows:

  • Thursday 30 April: noon to midnight
  • Wednesday 6 May: all day
  • Thursday 7 May: all day
  • Tuesday 19 May: all day
  • Wednesday 20 May: all day
  • Tuesday 26 May: start of open-ended strike
