A new food wagon has been parked  in the stunning vistas of Skaftafell national park in east Iceland. The area, located beneath the Vatnajökull glacier,  is extremely popular with tourists and hence the wagon, called Glacier Goodies, has been offering gourmet fast food to hikers including deep fried ice cream, lobster tempura and fish and chips.

According to Stefán Þór Arnarson, who runs the food wagon with his brother Atli, the majority of custmoers are tourists. "We serve high quaility food using local products," he explains. "The wagon is a project we've been passionate about." Arnarson is a professional chef and their concept was for customers to enhance their experience of the region. On offer are local specialities such as the famous Höfn lobster. "We've been lacking restaurants in the region," he adds. "In Höfn there are some excellent restaurants but when you're travelling around the county this culinary ambition is not as evident. With popular spots here like Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, we need to improve services to tourists."

There are five courses on offer at Glacier Goodies: Lobster soup, fish and chips, lobster tempura, grilled lamb and deep fried ice cream. The lamb is grilled using wooden bricks in the traditional highland style. The ice creme is the local Jöklaís which is sold straight from the farm. "We deep fry it. Some people love it and some people don't, but we like to be a bit different," he laughs.
