Tourists have greatly increased to the northern town of Hvammstangi and the Húnaþing area in North Icealand, mainly due to the Icelandic Seal Centre located there. According to press representative Unnur Valborg Hilmisdóttir at the centre told Morgunblaðið that at the end of this August, tourists had increased by three thousand from last year. The total number of tourists in one year is estmated at 25 thousand.

The Center was orginally established in 2005 to reinforce sustainable tourism in the Húnaþing vestra region. It offers fun and informative exhibiton on seals for children with a live lab open for viewing inside the museum. For more information about the centre click HERE.
