A new restaurant called Tanginn has been opened in the Westman Islands right on the pier. The Westman Islands could become the latest gourmet spot in Iceland, with Slippurinn, also in the islands, recently voted one of Iceland's best restaurants by the White Guide.

Actually, a small restaurant called Tangi existed in the same location last summer and the new owners decided to keep the name. The new venue however will be much larger and the menu quite different. "We thought the islands needed a bistro so that was the idea behind it," says marketing manger Laila Sæunn Pétursdóttir. "Tanginn is a place where you can relax any time of day, at lunchtime, in the afternoon or in the evening."

The restaurant which opened yesterday will be open daily between 11 - 23 and from 11-13 on weekends.
