Iceland’s human search engine wins 2016 marketing Grand Prix

‘Ask Guðmundur’, the Iceland human-powered search engine, has been voted Europe’s best marketing communications campaign for 2016 by the Euro Effie marketing awards.

As well as winning all four of the Euro Effie marketing award categories it had been nominated for, ‘Ask Guðmundur’ was also awarded the overall ‘Grand Prix’ award.

‘Ask Guðmundur’ is part of Promote Iceland’s Inspired by Iceland promotional campaign and consists of seven Icelandic men and women, all named Guðmundur or Guðmunda, fielding real questions from visitors to Iceland.

‘Ask Guðmundur’ won four categories: Best demonstrati­on of in­tegra­ted ef­fecti­veness , Dav­id Vs Goli­ath (for campaigns launched in environments with strong competition from large companies and brands), Leisure & Entertain­ment and Small Budget .

The award ceremony was held in Brussels last week and the full list of winners can be seen here .

The team of Guðmundurs/das answer questions on local life in the various regions of Iceland from interested people throughout the world. Over 100 of these questions have been answered by means of a dedicated video, and these can be seen on YouTube here .
