Camper van company Kúkú Campers face criticism after it came to light that they had published a text on their website encouraging to eat as they want from Iceland's nature. The text has now been removed from the website.

The company received four letters this morning from people saying that their words were up for misinterpretation. Yesterday we reported that a group of US tourists killed a lamb at a farm in East Iceland. The men were fined and had to reimburse the farmer.

Kúkú campers also writes on their website:

"Go anywhere, sleep almost anywhere and do anything at incredibly low prices."  This has been criticised as well, due to tourists going to the toilet in Icelandic nature or on private property.

Managing director of Kúkú Campers however said, speaking to mbl.is that their text was obviously a joke like most of their marketing material, and that they're referring to the 27th article in Iceland's nature laws where it states that everyone is allowed to pick mountain herbs, berries, mushrooms, plants, shellfish and seaweed for their own uses in public areas."

He also adds that the sheep thieves were not using camper vans from the company so it is very unlikely that they read their website. "But in the unlikely event that someone did read our text and misunderstood it, we're happy to reassess it."
