A recent photograph by NASA of the Holuhraun lava field is considered the best photo of the eruption yet says volcanologist Haraldur Sigurðsson on his blog

"Nasa recently published this photograph which I believe to be the best photo of the new Holuhraun,"writes Haraldur. " The muddy glacier Dyngjujökull is to the south, in the north there is volcanic crater Askja with Öskjuvatn lake nearby. The volcanic steam heads east, and notice that the steam rises from the active craters and not from the lavaflow which runs north-east."
