The Icelandic naming committee recently came to a verdict on 15 different names. Icelandic law dictates that the names of babies born in Iceland must be on a recognised list of legal Icelandic names, unless one parent is foreign, if not, parents must submit the name for approval at the Icelandic Naming Committee.
The committee has now accepted the names Mark, Kamal and Þóri as legal names for boys as they fit Icelandic rules of conjugation, but Duane, Hector, Sveinnóli, Karma and Clinton were refused.
Girl's names Lady and Kaia didn't meet with approval either as they are not considered to fit to the Icelandic tongue.
Middle names Huxland, Fletcher and Haugeland were also not allowed.
