Badly equipped rental car overturned on icy road

Two French tourists were lucky not to get hurt when their vehicle overturned in Mýrdalssandur near Vík, south-east Iceland. The car was very poorly equipped for driving in wintery conditions. 

Hafdís Karlsdóttir, a guide who first arrived at the scene of the accident says that the car was an old jeep with very bad tyres, not at all suitable for driving in snow. 

Roads in Iceland were very icy last night and the tourists in question had not heard any warnings about icy roads. 

Fortunately, the two tourists were not hurt, only badly shaken by the experience.
