Sulphur dioxide pollution is now high in Húsavík, Mývatn and surrounding areas. Pollution has gone down in Höfn, east Icelanad but residents in the aforementioned areas are warned to stay indoors especially if they have respiratory illnesses.

People are advised to shut windows and turn up their central heating. Today and tomorrow, Thursday, pollution from the eruption will be noticible in many areas in north Iceland. Measurements at Mývatn show figures of 800 - 1200 µg/m3 or 0,3 - 0,4 ppm which means poor air quality for those susceptible to respiratory problems.
