Inhabitants of Skagafjörður, north Iceland have been advised to stay indoors, shut windows and turn up their central heating today. The level of SO2 is rising in the area and is now measured at 1,7 ppm which means 5,100 microgrammes per cubic metre.

Children in Sauðárkrókur, the largest town in the area can go to school but will not be allowed to go out into the playground or to swimming classes.
