Lava field spans 72 km2

The fissure eruption in Holuhraun continues with a similar force as in recent days and the lava field now spans 72 square kilometres.

According to the Icelandic met office, seismic activity around Bárðarbunga and in the dyke intrusion is comparable to previous days, with no earthquake reaching the magnitude of 5 on the scale. 

The strongest earthquakes at Bárðarbunga were at the magnitude of 4.5 this morning at 03:09 and 03:18, and at a magnitude of 4.6  at 09:35 this morning. All in all around 100 events have been detected in the area.

SO2 pollution will spread to the north east of the eruption today. Calm weather increases the slevel of SO2.
