Rise of twin birth rates
Twin birth rates have increased by 18,4 percent since last year according to figures from the National University Hospital. This October eight sets of twins were born at the hospital.
"We haven't felt a particular rise in twin births but the numbers show otherwise," explains midwife Anna Sigríður Vernharðsdóttir at the National University Hospital. In the period between the beginning of January and the end of October, eight pairs of twins were born. One set of triplets were born last year but none this year.
