The Icelandic Coast Guard vessel Týr left Reykjavík harbour on Thursday on her way to the Mediterranean Sea where she will carry out assignments for Frontex, the European Union's external borders agency. Týr will operate south of Italy for the next two months.

The Dash 8 aeroplane owned by the ICG will also be in the service of Frontex until the end of January operating off Sicily. A request was made in October to rent the equipment with crews from the ICG.

Frontex, as well as the EU's fisheries inspection, has on regular basis rented both ships and aircrafts from the ICG in recent years.
