Still no resolution in doctors' strike
Meetings between the state negotiator and the Icelandic Medical Association (LÍ) negotiation committee came to a close yesterday with no resolution in sight. Strike action thus began again at midnight at all health care centres in the capital area as well as sections of the National University Hospital.
Medical students in their 4th - 6th year at the University of Iceland handed over a signed declaration to Minister of Finance Bjarni Benediktsson today that they will not apply for positions within the Icelandic healthcare system if the doctors' strike is not resolved.
The strike proceedings are as follows:
On Monday November 17th - November 19th and December 8th - December 10th: Doctors at the women and children's services of the National University Hospital, all healthcare centres in Reykjavík, the healthcare centre in West Iceland, the healthcare centre in the West Fjords, North Iceland, East Iceland, South Iceland, Southwest Iceland and the National University Hospital research and development department.
Wednesday November 19th - Friday November 21st: Doctors at the Akureyri hospital and doctors in the diagnostic medicine services at the National University Hospital.
Monday November 24th to Wednesday November 26th: The operations department at the National University Hospital.
Wednesday November 5th to Friday November 7th and Wednesday December 10th to Friday December 21st: Mental health services and surgical services at the National University Hospital.
Wednesday December 10th to midnight Friday 21st: Doctors at the Akureyri hospital, the mental health services, diagnostic medicine services and surgical services at the National University Hospital.
