Bonfire night

Crowds gathered at Ægissíða, west Reykjavík on Friday night to celebrate the Twelfth night of Christmas. The traditional bonfires had been postponed for a few days due to poor weather.

This Icelandic Icelandic New Year's Eve tradition is where families gather to sing songs about the elves and the hidden folk who according to folklore are prominent at this time of year.

The rest of New Year's Eve's fireworks are also lit on this night to put an end to Christmas with a bang.
