Around 120 members of a search and rescue party came to the aid of a tourist who was hiking up Mount Esja, near Reykjavik last night. The man was well equipped and sent out a gps message to rescue teams so that he could be located.

There was a blizzard last night which caused bad visibility in the mountain. The man was found at the top of Blikdalur valley and was cold, but otherwise in good health. The first rescue team to arrive in Blikdalur were hit by an avalanche but were not harmed.
