Dagbjartur Arilíusson, one of two owners of Steðji microbrewery says that the controversial Hvalur 2 beer, made out of manure-smoked fin whale testicles has generated a lot of international interest and has received a lot of positive feedback.

Several articles on the beer have been published in the international press and the beer cause anger from The Whale and Dolphin Society.

Arilíusson says that criticism only surfaced from this one society, criticism repeated by the international media. "That's all," he says. "We've received really positive feedback. People realise that we're using all ingredients, just as our ancestors did in the old days in the spirit of Þorri."

He adds that people are very curious." Actually our situation today is that we could sell all our supplies of our whale beer abroad to interested parties."

Interest from abroad is so great that the Steðji brewery is considering whether to make a new batch of whale beer following Þorri.

Several kinds of Þorri bjór are produced by Icelandic breweries with this ancient winter season starting on January 23rd. Hvalur 2 is however the only seasonal beer made with any kind of whale meat.
