Wind blows rescue truck off the road
The car weighs four and a half tonnes which means that winds must have been pretty strong. Ljósmynd/Kjölur
A rescue vehicle from the Kjalar search and rescue team in Kjalarnes, south-west Iceland is probably a write-off after a sharp gust of wind blew it off the Hvalfjörður road yesterday. The car was on a patrol trip due to bad weather and three passengers, all members of the rescue team were inside. They were unharmed but rather shaken by the incident.
In an interview with mbl.is, Brynjar Már Bjarnason, the team leader explained that the vehicle had almost come to a standstill when a strong gust of wind blew it off the road and that it had landed first on the roof and then on the side. This type of car weighs four and a half tonnes. Another vehicle swiftly arrived for assistance but Bjarnason doubts that insurances will cover the damages. "This is a great financial blow for such a small rescue team," he explains.
