Search and rescue parties from Hella and Hvolsvöllur in south Iceland have been searching for a woman at Myrdalsjökull glacier since last night. She has not yet been found. The woman had intende to trek on cross country skis around the glacier and left on Tuesday. Weather in the area is very bad and the weather forecast is for worsening weather.

The woman, who is an experienced trekker is wearing a SPOT device which sends a message on her location every 12 hours. She had told a friend who was receiving the messages that if she did not receive messages three times in a row this meant that she was in need of assistance. The last message arrived on Friday.

Rescue teams are using snowcats and snowtrucks for the search.
