In honour of Mottumars (Iceland’s answer to Movember), Fisheries Iceland is encouraging all Icelandic fisheries to decorate their vessels and work premises with moustaches. A template moustache design has been made for this purpose and can be downloaded free here.

The Icelandic Health Minister, Kristján Þór Júlíusson, and Jens Garðar Helgason, Chairman of Fisheries Iceland, unveiled a new giant moustache on a trawler owned by HB Grandi at a press conference held on the vessel to officially launch Mottumars.

Reach out to fisheries employees

A press release from Fisheries Iceland indicates that 9,000 people are directly employed in the fisheries industry in Iceland. One of the aims of this cooperation with Mottumars is to convey the campaign’s message to these people more effectively.

“We encourage Icelandic fisheries and others interested in supporting the cause to decorate their ships and work premises with moustaches. You can either use the template design provided or let the creativity and imagination of your talented employees shine by having them design their own moustaches,” reads the press release.

Mottumars is a fund-raising and awareness-raising campaign run by the Icelandic Cancer Society in the fight against cancer in men. Participants are encouraged to share their moustache-decoration photos on social media with #mottumars hashtag.
