Dozens of cars stuck on Holtavörðuheiði

HThe no.1 road on Holtavörðuheiði is currently inpassable and dozens of cars have been stuck on the heath for hours in zero visibility. A great number of people are seeking shelter in Staðarskáli, a restaurant, shop and petrol station. 

"At seven p.m there were still thirty cars stuck on the heath," says Gunnar Örn Jakobsson, director of the Húni rescue service. Rescue teams are working on getting people and cars off the heath. Some of the cars are stuck in snow, some of them went off the road due to poor visibility and some are stuck because of other cars stuck in front of them.  "Around 200 people were waiting in Staðarskáli when we counted, at seven-thirty p.m.
