Hellisheiði and Reykjanesbraut are closed

Car accidents occurred on Hellisheiði in the last half an hour due to almost no visibility and the road is now closed. Police and rescue teams are coming to the aid of the cars stuck on the road. Reykjanesbraut, the road between Reykjavik and Keflavik has also been closed and numerous cars are also stuck there.
Police have released an announcement asking people to try to refrain from going out at all and to follow the weather forecast carefully.
