Today's weather: Prepare for a big bang

A strong gale or severe gale warning (average wind velocity 20 to 28 m/s) is in effect
for all parts of Iceland today as issued by the Icelandic Met Office. A weather report from the Icelandic road administration says that " A big bang is expected around noon ." People are urged to refrain from travelling today as many roads could becoma impassable.
Snow trucks in Reykjavik have been busy all night trying to clear the heavy snow that fell yesterday in preparation for today's storm. Snow, sleet and possible rain is expected which means that snow will become waterlogged and flooding may occur. Insurance companies have urged people to make sure that drains are cleared and to be careful of piles of snow which may plunge from roofs today if the snow melts.
The road between Reykjavík and Keflavík today could become very difficult between 13- 17 and winds of up to 40 m/s are expected in Kjalarnes.
