6% will need maths assistance

On the basis of the results of the Talnalykill maths screening exercise carried out in Reykjavik in November 2014, the vast majority of primary-school pupils (around 94%) are deemed unlikely to need special assistance in maths.

Best result since 2012

According to a press release from Reykavik City Council, some 5.6% of pupils will need such assistance, 0.2% fewer than in 2013. This is the best result achieved since 2012. Results varied from school to school, with the percentage of pupils deemed likely to need special assistance in maths ranging from 0% to 25%.

Proactive care

The Talnalykill maths screening exercise was sat by pupils in 34 Reykjavik primary schools. A record 98% of eight-year-olds in Reykjavik took part in the screening exercise, the purpose of which is to identity those pupils who are likely to run into difficulties and react quickly with personalised learning plans and/or special assistance.
