“Our aim is to help people navigate the jungle of their tax return,” says Aron Freyr Jóhannsson, one of the Directors of Orator Legal Assistance. Orator will be offering the public free assistance with their tax return this Saturday.

“Our way of helping”

Orator’s “Tax Day” is run by graduate students in Law at the University of Iceland, in cooperation with the audit firm Deloitte. Tax Day has been an annual event ever since Orator was founded back in 1981.

“Legal assistance and Tax Day are our ways of giving something back to society,” explains Jóhannsson, who runs Orators jointly with Birgitta Arngrímsdóttir.

Best ever Tax Day

Tax Day will be held in the Háskólatorg building at the University of Iceland from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. According to Jóhannsson, the experts from Deloitte will be joined by at least fifteen law students throughout the day. The students are visiting Deloitte today to receive specific tax-return guidance from experts in preparation for Saturday’s event.

This year’s event will the best ever, according to Jóhannsson. “We did not have enough room last year, but this year the University of Iceland has allowed us to use Háskólatorg, which is a much bigger, better and more open space,” he explains.

What to bring

Those thinking of seeking assistance at Tax Day are requested to bring with them their Directorate of Internal Revenue (RSK) web key, their password or passkey for their PC banking system, and their freelance invoices, if appropriate.

“We hope to see as many people as possible using our services on Tax Day,” says Jóhannsson.
