1% Iceland population increase

The population of Iceland on 1 January 2015 was 329,100, an increase of 3,429 (1%) from the same time last year.
In absolute terms, the largest increase was in the Greater Reykjavik area, where the population increased by 2,530 over the year. The biggest proporational increase was in Suðurnes, which saw a 2.1% increase in its population from January 2014 to January 2015.
Three regions of Iceland – North-West Iceland, East Iceland and the West Fjords – saw a fall in population numbers, according to figures from Statistics Iceland.
On 1 January 2015, there were 74 municipalities in Iceland, the same as the previous year. Of these 74 municipalities, just nine have populations of over 5,000.
