An Icelander, Alfreð Örn Clausen,  is wanted by the San Bernadino District Attorney on suspicion of stealing 44 million USD through a fraudulent law firm. Clausen has proclaimed his innocence on RÚV national radio and says he is a possible witness, not a suspect. In an interview with RÚV Clausen said, "The whole matter is complicated and weird but neither myself or my business partners did anything wrong. "

According to the DA's office at San Bernardino County, the firm offered alterations to mortgages and collected monthly payments from the victims. Clausen's lawyer sent a statement to the Icelandic press yesterday evening stating that Clausen is ready to speak with Icelandic and US authorities but is not prepared to go to the US at the moment as he would have to wait in prison until his case goes to court, a process that could take two to three years.

Clausen has been working as a real estate agent in Iceland.
