The Blanda rescue team in north Iceland was called out at 7.45 this morning to rescue four British tourists who were hiking across the Kjölur highland road. The four men were exhausted and very cold when they were picked up.

According to an announcement from the rescue team, the four men had left for the highlands from Blönduós four days ago and had camped in a tent all of those nights. They were too exhausted and cold to continue on their hike. The Blanda rescue team reached them at 9.30 this morning and found them staying in their tents and they were happy and thankful to have been found.

Weather in the area was snowy on occasion and the frost was around 10 degrees below zero.

The four British travellers where taken to Blönduós and they intended on catching a bus back to Reykjavík.
