Sunshine and twenty degrees for the Easter hols? No, not really. Mbl.is/ Ómar Óskarsson

"Sunshine and twenty degrees," said Þorsteinn V.Jónsson at the Iceland met office this morning to an mbl.is journalist. Unfortunately that was an April Fool's joke, but the good news is: The weather could be worse!

"The worst weather is tomorrow, Thursday," explains Jónsson. " It will snow a bit here in the south and we'll have some wind and snow until Friday. He adds that this snowfall will turn into rain or sleet on Friday. "On Saturday the weather will get better with brighter sunny patches, particularly in nortn and east Iceland. Generally, temperatures will get warmer, up to 10 degrees Celsius.

The music festival Aldrei fór ég suður takes place in Ísafjörður this Easter weekend which means a lot of people will be travelling to the West Fjords. "It will be pretty windy in the West Fjords," says Jónsson. " On Thursday night there will be strong wind and snowfall and it will continue snowing on Friday, snow which will turn into sleet. It will be a pretty windy weekend in the West Fjords. " He adds that tomorrow and Friday people intending to travel around Iceland should observe the weather forecast closely to see if any roads close due to snowfall and wind.
