A decent British chippy in Iceland!

A trio of Icelandic fish entrepreneurs have realised their dream of opening a traditional British fish-and-chip van in Reykjavik. ‘Fish and Chips’, located during the day at Reykjavik port, began serving this weekend.

Benedikt Sveinsson, Höskuldur Ásgeirsson and Pétur Björnsson all worked in the UK at the same time, selling Icelandic fish in Hull.

Much of their trade was with local ‘chippies’, which they also often patronised – and here the dream of selling fish and chips in Iceland was born. Sveinsson and Ásgeirsson were high-level executives at Iceland Seafood, while Björnsson ran his own fish sales company, Ísberg.

The chef at ‘Fish and Chips’ travelled to the UK with Ásgeirsson to learn the proper art of preparing the British delicacy at the National Federation of Fish Friers. The fish used is Icelandic cod, while other essential ingredients (batter, frying fat, chips, mushy peas, vinegar, etc.) have been flown in from the UK.

‘Fish and Chips’ is stationed on Vesturbugt 11am-9pm, then on Lækjartorg from 10pm till late.
