Value of Icelandic fish catch grows

The value of Icelandic fish catches in February this year was ISK 16.2 billion (approx. €110 million), up 41.7% on February 2014.

Data from Statistics Iceland show that a major part of this growth is down to a huge increase in the capelin catch, up some ISK 4 billion in value year-on-year to just under ISK 6 billion. The value of the cod catch has risen by 24% since last year.

The twelve-month value of Icelandic fish catches (March 2014-February 2015) was ISK 142.6 billion (approx. €965 million), roughly the same as the previous twelve-month value. The increase in catch value of demersal and pelagic species over the period is offset by a fall in catch value for flat fish and crustaceans.
