Dog rescued from crevasse
The Árborg search and rescue team was sent to Þingvellir national park yesterday when a dog fell into a deep crevasse.
The rescue team managed to secure ropes at the scene and members were able to descend into the crevasse to rescue the dog, who according to reports, was very happy to escape.
"The dog, named Bangsi, was happy to be rescued and the task was unusual but fun," the resuce team wrote on their Facebook page.
Þingvellir, which is on the Unesco World Heritage site list has many crevasses, or rifts, some which are filled with water. These rifts are caused by Þingvellir being in the region where the tectonic plates meet between North America and Europe.
