A young woman fell into the ocean at Sæbraut in central Reykjavik last night. She was about 50 metres from the shore and shouting for help when tourists passing by saw her.

According to the Reykjavik metropolitan police, two officers from the special police unit were on patrol at Skúlagata when they heard men calling out from the ledge of rocks on Sæbraut near Snorrabraut. When the policemen arrived on the scene, one of them decided to fetch a sea suit while the other one waited at the shore. The remaining policeman soon noticed that the woman was exhausted so he dove in and swam out to rescue her. The second police officer arrived soon after and helped him to get the woman onto the shore.

The woman was very cold and exhausted and was taken to the emergency room at Landspítalinn hospital.
