Gullfoss gets autumn facelift

Improvement works at Iceland’s famous Gullfoss waterfall will commence in the autumn.

Architects Eyrún Margrét Stefánsdóttir and María Björk Gunnarsdóttir are behind the design which won the open selection process for the works at Gullfoss.

The design includes a new viewing deck, a walkway from the upper area to a new viewing point, renovation of the existing viewing point, and a new stairway.

Gullfoss has received a State grant of ISK 34 million (approx. €230,000) to undertake improvement works.

This is part of a total of ISK 850 million (approx. €5.8 million) earmarked for urgent development and conservation work at tourist sites owned or supervised by the State around the country.
