Icelander world CrossFit champion
Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir has been crowned ‘Fittest Woman on Earth’ at the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games, which took place at in California, USA on 21-26 July.
Davíðsdóttir fought off competition from almost forty other international athletes to top the Individual Women’s table after a total of thirteen different disciplines. Her compatriot Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir was in the overall lead by the end of the penultimate discipline, and ended up in bronze-medal position.
According to the Games website, “the CrossFit Games are the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth™. They are world-renowned as a gruelling test for the world’s toughest athletes and a thrilling experience for spectators.”
“The CrossFit Games events are made up of a broad range of functional movements. Functional movements move large loads, long distances, quickly. These movements also form the basis of our exercise program.”
A third Icelander – in the form of Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson – also graced the CrossFit podium. Guðmundsson secured bronze in the Individual Men’s tournament.
