A man in his thirties is currently in police custody on suspicion of having killed a fellow resident in a block of flats in central Reykjavik last night.

Police were called out at 9:55pm yesterday evening to attend to a serious violent attack. They arrived at the scene to find the victim, aged around 60. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also found a sharp weapon, which they suspect was used in the attack.

Both the victim and the suspect are residents of the same block of flats, and nobody else is believed to have been involved in the incident.

The investigation is at its early stages and an application to remand the suspect in custody will be filed later today.
