Following yesterday's news that the Icelandic Government had received information on 13 Syrian families , the state committee on refugee matters has advised that 55 Syrian refugees should be invited to come to Iceland before Christmas.

The refugees are currently staying in a refugee camp in Lebanon. Included in the group are an engineer, an interpretor, a barman, a man with a degree in English Literature, a plummer and an electrician. "Right now it's not certain that these people will accept our offer but then we'll invite others instead. This group is comprised of 21 adults and 34 children," said Stefán Þór Björnsson, chairman of the committee to mbl.is today. He adds that a few people within the group have been subjected to torture.
