French teenager died of exposure

Icelandic authorities have concluded that Florian Maurice François Cendre, the French teenager found dead in South Iceland in August, most probably died of exposure.

The teenager was spotted hiking into Laxárdalur valley in October 2014, and his body was found ten months later. The autopsy performed on Cendre’s body identifies no specific cause of death, but there is no evidence to suggest that he was murdered.

The victim flew to Iceland on a one-way ticket on 1 October 2014, spent one night in a hotel in Reykjavik, then flew out to Höfn in South Iceland the next day.

The investigation into Cendre’s death has revealed that he was very much a loner and had had next to no contact with his family and friends in 1-2 years, shutting himself away in the world of computer games.

He informed nobody of his trip to Iceland and there is nothing to indicate why he flew first to Reykjavik, then on to Höfn.

The police case into Cendre’s death is now closed.
